Once a large fishmeal processing plant, the site needed a great deal of cleaning up initially, along with landscaping. This includes old foundation and debris removal; the demolition of the fishmeal building; bush hogging of thick foliage; upgrading of main roads, installation of walkways, paths, and trails; and the delineation of major site features (interpretive, administrative and maintenance, nature preserve and wetlands, and exhibit areas).
